Frequently Asked Questions
The select program is a “bridge” between San Ramon FC's (SRFC) Recreational and Competitive soccer programs. Select runs from July-November. Select is designed for players (U11-U14) wanting a more demanding program than Recreational, but not as demanding as Competitive.
Select provides an opportunity to:
- Work with a professional trainer
- Play games against stronger competition than Recreational
- Have lower costs than Competitive
- Play against other soccer clubs
The Select program follows the overall philosophy of our Competitive program as set down by our club's Technical Directors.
What is the cost of the program?
2018 program costs will be posted on our registration page (bottom of page).
In addition, each family must pay a volunteer deposit of $150.
Upon completing 4 volunteer hours for the club (not team specific), the volunteer deposit is refunded.
What is the time commitment?
Trainings will be held twice per week beginning in early July, with sessions lasting 1.5 hours. Sessions are once per week with a Volunteer Coach and once per week for 10 weeks with a Professional Trainer. Players are expected to be on time, properly dressed (appropriate footwear and shin guards required), with their own ball and water and ready to play at the start of practice. Parents are to be on time to drop off and pick up players.
How many games are played?
Norcal Premier Soccer Leagues generally consist of 8-10 league games and are scheduled by Norcal Premier Soccer League. All SRFC Select teams will play in the Norcal Premier Soccer Leagues Region 3/4 Copper League. Games can be on either Saturdays or Sundays, or both.
The league is composed almost entirely of teams based in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties. Teams will play in the 2 SRFC tournaments (3-4 games in one weekend) and may play in 1-2 additional tournaments, at the team’s discretion.
How are teams formed?
All players are required to register for and attend SRFC player assessments in May.
Registration for player assessments is free but required for the Select program.
At these events, all players, whether desiring to play Competitive or Select, will be evaluated and offered a place, either competitive or select, if appropriate for that player.
Players may choose to play at the level they were invited to play or at a level below.
All Select players will play in their age group and will not be permitted to play up or down an age level.
Players who do not attend at least one player assessment session will be placed on a Recreational team.
Do the teams play in tournaments?
All Select teams will be provided two free tournaments (Aug & Oct) hosted by SRFC, for which the teams must apply to confirm their participation.
How much playing time can my child expect?
The Select program is a developmental program and players are expected to play a minimum of 50% of each game (coaches may decrease playing time for players based on the failure of a player to attend training or if a player is disruptive at training).
How much travel is involved?
Travel is usually within a 30-mile distance but may be longer at times.
What is the Golden Ticket?
Some players may be the given the chance to train on a limited basis with a competitive team via the SRFC Golden Ticket Award Program. Players awarded a Golden Ticket will be placed with appropriate competitive teams in their age group.
What uniforms are worn?
Uniforms are the same as in the Recreational program and can be purchased at SoccerPro in Dublin. Teams may choose to purchase bags, training shirts or sweats from Soccer Pro, but those additional purchases will be at the team’s expense.
Do the teams receive awards?
SRFC does not provide awards to participants in either the Select or Competitive programs for any events other than SRFC organized tournaments. Select teams that win Norcal Premier Soccer Region 3/4 leagues receive championship pennants from Norcal Premier Soccer League.
