U8 Boys from San Ramon FC Take 1st Place in Futsal Tournament

Excitement in San Jose!

Earlier this month, a group of boys from our U8 competitive academy finished in 1st place at the US Futsal Northwest Regional Tournament. Held in San Jose from March 11-13, the tournament included futsal teams from various states and even Mexico.

San Ramon FC’s U8 players were invited to play on a Diablo Valley Futsal U8 boys’ team.  Normally, Diablo’s tournament teams are a mix of players from various youth clubs. However, this U8 team just happened to be comprised entirely of San Ramon FC players and was coached by San Ramon FC coaches, Bijan Sadeghy and Ricky Salazar.

The U8 boys played four games in the regional tournament.  They secured a 6-4 victory vs. the DeAnza Force Futsal Kings and a 9-2 win vs. Gamer Futsal School from Burlingame. They also earned an 8-1 victory against a team from Southern California, FC Thunder.

In the finals, the U8 boys found themselves in a very competitive match with Legend5 Fut5al, a San Jose futsal club. With three minutes left to play in double overtime, the U8 boys trailed 4-3.  With 35 seconds to play, the score remained the same. The team never gave up and finished strong, scoring two goals in the closing seconds. In fact, the game winning goal was scored on the very last touch of the game, before penalty kicks!

Their first place finish in the regional tournament guaranteed the Diablo U8 team a spot in the US Nationals Futsal Tournament, taking place this July, also in San Jose.

We’re very proud of all of the players and their coaches for competing well in the tournament.

Congratulations to the U8 boys and Coaches Bijan and Ricky!
